How long does it take to complete driver's ed?

Classroom Instruction will last three weeks. Classes are held Monday through Thursday.

The state allows up to three weeks after Class Instruction has finished to finish the In-Car Instruction.

Generally, we try our best to finish much sooner, but that all depends on Instructor availability, Student availability, and other uncontrollable things such as bad weather that may delay or cancel drives for safety.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

A fee of $35.00 will be charged if 24 hours' advance notice is not given for a driving appointment cancellation.

Do you teach adult students?

We offer adult training for drive packages. We do not offer adult segment one or segment two classes.

Segment 1

How old does my child have to be for segment one?

Students must be 14 years and 8 months old before the first day of class.

Students may not start segment one if they are older than 17 years and 11 months before the first day of class.

Do you do road tests?

Unfortunately, we are not road testers. We do offer a road test refresher package to help prepare for the actual test.

How much does Segment one cost?

The cost of segment one is $480. This includes the 24-hour classroom and a six-hour drive package by a certified Instructor.

Do I need a permit to start classes?

No permit is required to take the driver's ed class. The student must be at least 14 and 8 months old by the first day of class.

What happens if I miss a class?

The student is required to make up the same class session missed (e.g., The student missed day 5 and must attend day 5 of the next available segment 1 course.)

Does the classroom have to be completed to start behind-the-wheel lessons?

Only two class days need to be completed before you can start your behind-the-wheel lessons.

How long does it take to complete the class?

Generally, we strive to complete the course within four weeks, scheduling permitting. The state allows up to six weeks for completion.

What happens after I complete the course?

First - Great Job!!!

Second, make will need to make an appointment at the Secretary of State. 

Segment 1 Certificate of Completion, proof of a valid Social Security number, U.S. citizenship or legal presence if not a U.S. citizen, identity, and at least two documents establishing Michigan residency. A parent or guardian's signature is also required upon application. (Residency can be confirmed through documents in the parent's name if other forms of documented proof can establish the family relationship.)

All documentation is subject to Department of State approval. In some cases, document approval may not occur on the same day and may require an additional visit.

Behind-the-Wheel

When can I start the behind-the-wheel lessons?

If the student is scheduled in the segment one class, you can not start any behind-the-wheel instruction until you have completed two days of in-class instruction.

Students with a level one or level two License can start private behind-the-wheel Instruction as soon as they have settled dates with an instructor's schedule.

Adult students are required to possess a valid Michigan TIP (Temporary Instructional Permit) and have it physically with them for all Behind-the-Wheel lessons.

Will I have other students in the car with me?

Generally, you will have one other student with you in the car. You are required to complete four hours of observation to fulfill the course requirements. 

Can I request to have lessons with a friend?

If you would like to drive with a friend, you will want to plan your schedule with them before you sign up.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my driving lesson?

Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by logging into your account on our website. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $35 late cancellation fee.

Are your instructors licensed?

Yes, each of our instructors is licensed by the state to teach classroom and behind-the-wheel training to all age groups.

Can I use my own car?

No, our vehicles have safety features (Instructor brake, Instructor mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that are not standard in general passenger vehicles.

Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?

No, you are covered under our commercial insurance during all behind-the-wheel training.

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Log in to your student account on our website. Select a time that suits your schedule.

How fast can I complete behind-the-wheel lessons?

This depends on your scheduling flexibility and instructor availability. You can take one 2-hour behind-the-wheel lesson (one hour driving, one hour observing) each day and schedule up to two driving lessons in advance. You must have one practice day between lessons.

You could schedule Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Once you complete Monday's lesson, you could schedule another upcoming lesson.

What safety equipment are your cars equipped with?

Our vehicles have professionally installed safety features (Instructor brake, Instructor mirror, student driver signs, etc.) that are not standard on general passenger vehicles.

Segment 2

How much does Segment two cost?

The cost of segment two is $70. This includes the 6 hours of classroom instruction with a certified Instructor. A road test refresher drive is available for purchase when you book the segment two class.

How many hours of driving do I need to complete for segment 2?

You will need to complete 30 of your required driving hours before the first day of class.

This will be a minimum of 28 daytime hours and 2 nighttime hours.
